Magnanimum regem defleat

Atque ruit subito preclara Cesaris astrum
Vulnere non maior nunc dolor esse potest,
Fortia stelliferi pandantur lumina caeli
Excipiat magnum calico turma virum.

Pie Jesu Domine, dona ei requiem.

Ah grief, may the German throng bear away
That great-hearted king now lost. He lies dead
And suddenly that bright star of the Caesars is fallen.
Now can there be no greater grief than this wound.
Let the mighty lights of the starry sky unfold.
Let the Heavenly host receive that great man.
