Klara Live: Psallentes en The Spirit of Gambo

Op dinsdag 10 november 2015 kun je op Klara naar Psallentes luisteren, zoals twee weken geleden live te horen samen met The Spirit of Gambo in het project ‘Cadman Requiem’ dat we uitwerkten voor Novecento te Leuven en AMUZ te Antwerpen. De opname is van het tweede van drie concerten, ter Park Abdij Heverlee. ‘Allen daarheen!’

[NL] Heb je ooit al begijntjes gezien? Wij ook niet. Deze vrome vrouwen van vervlogen eeuwen zijn uitgestorven. Wil je ze horen zingen? Dat kan wel. De Beghinae van Psallentes♀ zingen uit manuscripten die ze vonden in de begijnhoven van onder meer Brugge, Antwerpen en Amsterdam. Begijntjes? Je ziet ze zo voor je.

[FR] Vous n’avez jamais rencontré de béguines￿? Nous non plus. Ces femmes pieuses appartenaient à une communauté religieuse fondée voici plusieurs siècles, aujourd’hui disparue. En revanche, vous pouvez les entendre chanter! Les Beghinae de l’ensemble Psallentes♀ s’inspirent de divers manuscrits, découverts entre autres dans les béguinages de Bruges, d’Anvers et d’Amsterdam, et font renaître la voix des béguines.

[ENG] Have you ever seen any beguines? We haven’t either. Those devout laywomen of centuries past are no more. But would you like to hear them sing? That is possible. The Beghinae of Psallentes♀ sing works from manuscripts found in the beguinages of Bruges, Antwerp and Amsterdam, among others. Beguines? They appear before your very eyes.

[NL] Musica 1450-1600: Een muziekgeschiedenis van de Renaissance in twintig toppers en achttien portretten

[NL] Na de tiendelige introductie op de muziek van de Middeleeuwen, heeft Hendrik Vanden Abeele voor Amarant nu zijn zinnen gezet op de muziek van de Renaissance. In tien sessies bekijken we hoe de transitie gemaakt werd tussen Middeleeuwen en barok – maar dat klinkt te veel alsof de Renaissance slechts een overgangsperiode was. Kom mee luisteren naar al die prachtige muziekjes. Tien woensdagvoormiddagen te Antwerpen, in de Singel. Men vertelle het voort, warm aanbevolen!

An antiphon for the Lambertus vespers, and a famous piece of music in Liège. With the voices of Conor Biggs, Peter Maus, Philippe Souvagie, Govaart Haché, Adriaan De Koster, Paul Schils, Sander Le Roy, Pieter Coene and Hendrik Vanden Abeele (artistic direction).

The antiphon is part of the office for Lambertus, as made by Etienne de Liège.

The manuscript used is Utrecht, Universiteitsbibliotheek, Ms. 406. The antiphon is on folio 171r and 171v.

Chant group Psallentes performs Zelus domus, an antiphon for the Tenebrae matins. With the voices of Peter Maus, Philippe Souvagie, Govaart Haché, Adriaan De Koster, Paul Schils, Sander Le Roy, Pieter Coene and Hendrik Vanden Abeele (artistic direction).
